Exciting young Scottish design company Bluebellgray launched its first collection of home textile products in July 2009
The collection includes limited edition cushions and throws along with occasional one off bespoke items and original paintings. Each design is painted by hand in the Bluebellgray studio in Scotland using vibrant watercolours before being printed onto the softest natural cottons and linens using state of the art printing technology to capture every brush stoke and colour. Having gained fantastic experience working as head designer for a leading fabric company and with help along the way from the NESTA progrmme Fi Douglas has now set up her own company with a clear vision and style. Fi is a graduate of the prestigious Glasgow School of Art.
Influenced by a love of colour and all things floral, from summer meadows to city window boxes, the designs are unique and special. Without the restraints of traditional printing, colours are infinite and repeats are not restricted. For example, the ‘Meadow’ throw design is a wonderful 140cm x 200cm panel of beautiful tumbling flowers, printed exactly as it was painted and in a limited edition of only 200 pieces. Passionate about keeping things local and utilising local skills, everything is printed and made in the UK.
Every design is produced in a limited number and is individually signed, allowing customers to buy a truly unique piece of design art for their home, something to be treasured, loved and collected! New designs will be released throughout the year meaning people can add to their own Bluebellgray collection. The design philosophy behind the brand adheres to the ‘eclectic mix’ school of thought, encouraging the designs to sit beside flea market finds and family heirlooms.
As Fiona says ‘it’s ok when things don’t match, if you love it- go with it!’ The designs are aimed at people looking for something unique and individual for their home, an antidote to mass production.
